Every Friday, I take a drive to my local Winter Park Trader Joe’s to pick up some flowers. Nothing fancy — just something bright that catches my eye.
As a designer, I spend my days thinking too much about light, texture, proportion — all the bigger things that make a home work. But what I love about flowers is how immediate they are. You don’t have to plan for them. You just bring them in, and suddenly, the room feels alive.
But it’s funny how something so small can shift the feeling of a room. I like to place them by the entryway, in the kitchen, and sometimes in the powder-room (because I love powder rooms so much!).
I’ve realized I do this without really thinking about it. Flowers have become part of my rhythm and my routines, and the house feels empty without them. It’s a habit that makes my house feel like home — if I’m happy I want flowers to celebrate, if I’m not so happy, I want them to help me feel better. They always do!
When it comes to flowers, I keep things simple. I like arrangements that don’t need much attention and still look good after a few days. Here are my go to’s:
Eucalyptus is one of my go-to choices. It lasts for weeks, even as it dries, and it smells clean and natural. A good bunch – you want the vase to be full – in a ceramic vase can look so good!
Roses are another favorite. They’re classic for a reason. I don’t try to make them look perfect — I let them open up, even droop a little. That’s when they feel the most natural.
Hydrangeas fill space easily. One or two stems in a simple vase can make a big statement without needing a full bouquet.

And when I want something effortless, I mix greenery and herbs — things like mint, rosemary,- super fragrant!- or even branches from outside.
The main idea is not to overthink it. You don’t need florist tricks or matching colors. Choose what makes you pause when you see it — and let the flowers do their thing.
A few stems of color on the table can do what a new piece of furniture sometimes can’t: make a space feel alive. Flowers aren’t static — they open, they fade, they lean toward the light. They change every day, and that movement brings something real into a room.
I think that’s what I love most about them. They don’t last, and that’s the point. It’s a gentle reminder that homes aren’t meant to be frozen in time. They evolve — just like we do.
So yes, I keep flowers at home. Not because I’m trying to decorate, but because they remind me to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the space I’m already in.
XOXO
